There's no pressure to make money from crochet though — honestly, it might make your hobby more stressful (speaking from experience, HAHA). I feel you on how yarn can be so expensive though!! This hobby has a huge amount of range where it's possible to do it cheaply but also a huge potential to get extremely expensive. Best of luck and happy crocheting!

Hi Julia, getting to your article a bit late but it was still a great read. I’ve only been crocheting for a few months and honestly could not replace my regular income with crochet, sadly. I am not good enough to create my own patterns yet, and I am not interested in teaching or YouTubing. I really just want to crochet because I love it but good yarn is sooooooo expensive.

I totally agree with you — that’s why I spend a long time covering in my article why selling finished products is often a losing proposition, unfortunately. You’re right, it’s incredibly difficult to find someone to compensate you just for the time you spent, nevermind any profit!

I really enjoyed reading this.
i do crochet blankets and to be honest this article sound unrealistic to me because by selling my blanket which i took time making for months is just not easy and what people are willing to pay doesn’t just cover even the time i used making it.

Thank you Julia for this article. It was an excellent read..and you totally hit the nail on the head about pricing crochet goods. I often see items sold at prices that wouldn’t even cover the costs of the materials and very quickly realised that going that route is very difficult way to try and make even a small income with crochet. I will save this article to read again and again. ????
