All of these patterns use repurposed flip flop soles for the base so that they are sturdy enough to wear wherever you like, and make for long wearing shoes that you can show off for years!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I recommend using mercerized cotton for crocheting sandals because cotton has the least stretch and will ensure that your shoes fit tightly. It’s also extremely durable and will be able to handle some wear and tear, and can withstand a quick wash if you need to pat your shoes down with a wet paper towel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lion Brand 24\/7 Cotton has a great array of colors and is extremely sturdy. I’ve used this yarn before to make backpacks and market bags, so it’s a great bet for accessories that will be worn outside. You can find it on the Lion Brand website here<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For flip flop soles, you’ll need a pair of flip flops with a simple foam bottom that you can create holes in with a skewer or crochet hook. This just means that you shouldn’t use any pair of flip flops with a tougher exterior (a pair like this<\/a> on Amazon would probably be best).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do crochet shoes with flip flop soles hold up?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

They generally hold up very well! The most critical part of each pattern is working the initial row of single crochet in the holes on the flip flop soles. Once this round is finished, the tension is evenly spread between the holes, which makes them durable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I use something besides flip flops for the soles?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It’s possible to use soles of worn out Crocs or other shoes. The most important part of the pattern is poking holes the same distance apart, regardless of what kind of sole you use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do crochet shoes with flip flop soles stretch out over time?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you use mercerized cotton (especially Lion Brand 24\/7), slippers will stretch out slightly. When crocheting, size down your shoe size and use soles that are a little snug to begin with. You should also size down in the hook you’re using and work deliberately tight stitches (similar to the amigurumi technique). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
